Sugar

Project: "Sugar Shoot"

Photographer: Geneva Z. Bailey

Role: Sugar Vampire

Project Details: An exploration of the night and an unexpected sugar rush. Flickr album at Geneva Z. Bailey’s Flickr site

Photography

When I am not capturing moving images, I enjoy trying to create movement and electricity in still photography.

Slusho Zoom!! With Robots

Project: Bad Robot Productions contest- tie-in with Cloverfield promotion. The contest was to make a commercial for the fictional drink slusho.

Details: Grand prize winner of a custom Alienware laptop! This was a personal project. I served as director, producer, actor, editor, writer, 3D modeler based on 2D assets from the slusho website, texture artist, animator, and compositor, FX artist...

Lightings

Role: Artist, photographer

Project Details: I’m fascinated by what we cannot see. Dark matter, non-visible-light astronomy, and the hidden dimensions just out of reach in our daily lives. These pieces are part sculpture, part painting, part macro photography, and part science. Using various techniques, I highlight the beauty found in the transparent stuff one would normally throw in the trash or wash down the drain. I have used this technique throughout my experimental 16mm films, as well. In still photography, I wanted to highlight the landscape quality found in these overlooked pieces of trash.

Snowbird

Project: Snowbird

Role: Director, editor, writer, producer

Project Details: Short film shot on 16mm. Working with a minimal budget, created this piece from storyboarding through negative scanning, color correction and editing. Film aired on the Independent Film Channel in 2003 and was screened at the Cannes Film Market in 2005. Was recently included in a Boulder area filmmakers retrospective at the Dairy Center for the Arts.

The Galilean Satellites: Europa

Project: "The Galilean Satellites"

Role: Director, producer

Project Details: By far the most popular of my four-series 16mm film project dedicated to friend and mentor Stan Brakhage. The series employs recordings from the Voyager space probes, as well as more recent missions to the Jovian system. The sounds range from musical to chaotic. An abstract expression of the “personalities” of both the moons and the gods with whom they share their names, the series makes use of various plastics and liquid crystals, heated, stretched and tormented into life, just as these mini-planets are. It debuted at the New York International Film Festival and went on to play at over a dozen festivals all over the world, including most recently in South Korea.

Through The Looking-Glass

Project: "Through The Looking-Glass"

Photographer: Geneva Z. Bailey

Role: Caterpillar

Project Details: A photographic exploration and artistic interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland world. I’ve never aspired to be an actor or a model. I’m usually more at home behind the camera, but it’s such a joy to immerse myself in another artist’s vision and “play.” I do it whenever I get the chance.

Balloon Warrior

Project: "Balloon Warrior"

Photographer: Geneva Z. Bailey

Role: Warrior/Concept

Project Details: I’ve always been afraid of balloons. I know, it sounds crazy, but it’s a long story (and also a real thing- check out “globophobia”). I was about to embark on a solo journey halfway across the country and I needed a major self esteem boost. I was also studying for my black belt in Kung Fu. I had the idea to take some of my (not at all sharp) Kung Fu weapons and burst some balloons. My photographer wanted to capture the moment. However, the weather, light, weapons, atmosphere, were all so perfect we decided to turn it into a full-on photo shoot!

VFX Demo Reel

Description: My demo reel highlighting some of my 3D and VFX work. Work has appeared in several shorts and commercials and one feature-length film.

Tools: Maya, AfterEffects, Premiere, Unity

My Two Brads

Project: My Two Brads (sitcom spoof)

Description: Comedy video group spoofing the sitcom genre explores the one-joke format. A woman has two roommates named Brad. Binge the whole series in less than ten minutes! Mostly an experiment in laugh track editing. Based on actual events.

Roles: Actor, director, writer, title sequence motion graphics, editor, sound fx, so much laugh track, visual fx.
